Washing the Frigates

I gave the models a wash of Citadel Shade: Agrax Earthshade. I decided against painting the decks of the Attacker Class Frigates as these are very small models and the decking was quite fiddly to paint.

As you can see I have stuck three onto each wooden stick for ease of painting.

This is a very quick method of adding shadow and shade to the models.

Prussian Empire – Dystopian Wars

Here are the first models I have painted (and completed) for Dystopian Wars. Here is the Prussian Empire Blucher Class Dreadnought, probably passing too close to a bunker complex.

Here are some Arminius Class Frigates passing the same bunker!

The bunker model is a 1/300th scale model from Snapdragon Studio.

Here is a close up of one of my Arminius Class Frigates.

More frigates.

Here are the Arminius Class Frigates alongside the Blucher Class Dreadnought.

More photographs of the Blucher Class Dreadnought.

See my Dystopian Wars Workbench, to see how I painted these models and what else I am painting.

Prussian Empire Blucher Class Dreadnought

Here are some shots of my finished Prussian Empire Blucher Class Dreadnought in “water”.

I used some full colour print outs of water textures, printed on glossy photo paper using a standard home inkjet printer.

The scenery is from Snapdragon Studios and is an 1/300th SF Bunker, but seems to fit in quite well.

Painting the Decks

After giving the models in the Kingdom of Britannia Naval Battle Group their basecoat, I painted the decks of the battleship and the cruisers. For the decks I used Citadel Base: Zandri Dust.

I also painted the decks of the Tribal Class Cruisers.

I decided not to paint the decks of the frigates as I found the process too fiddly.

The Dystopian Gazette

Dystopian Wars Kingdom of Britannia Ruler Class Battleship HMS King Richard III

After a few “issues” with our previous game of Dystopian Wars, I was looking forward to playing our next game and this time playing the rules as written. Well we nearly got there!

Playing a 550 point battle, Simon had a Battleship, three Cruisers and two squadrons of Frigates. Opposing him, I had the Blucher Dreadnought, a Ruler Class Battleship, a single Tribal Cruiser and a small squadron of three Arminus Class Frigates.

The field objective (for both of us) was to destroy or sink 50% of the points value of the opposing fleet and destroy all Cruisers.

Simon’s main tactic appeared to be to throw everything at the Tribal Cruiser, as a result I was able to throw a lot of ordnance from my capital ships at his battleship.

Once he had sunk my Tribal Cruiser, he went for the Arminus Frigates which didn’t last long. However his frigates managed to survive an onslaught by my dreadnought and battleship.

I then remembered that my field orders were to sink Simon’s cruisers, so I started to target his ships. Tactically I was torn between firing everything at one target, sinking that before moving onto the next, or splitting the gunnery against the three ships, taking them all down together.
Having sunk my cruiser and my frigates, Simon ignored the dreadnought and started to pour fire into the battleship, which though well armoured started to take damage.

The game reached a point where there was two ways it could go. The battleship was taking damage from Simon’s frigates, however rather than take them out, I needed to direct fire into the cruisers to sink them, I took a chance that Simon’s damaged frigates would need to be really lucky to hit the battleship. So all weapons opened fire on the cruisers. Alas my luck was out, and one of the frigates managed to get lots of sixes and by the end, managed to strike the final damage that sunk the battleship.

Tactically, Simon won out because he followed his field orders, he concentrated on taking out the cruiser and then taking out the smaller ships so that he knocked out 50% of my force. I was sidetracked by his battleship, trying to remove that meant that I was late in destroying the cruisers. I also underestimated the frigates, which though small, managed to sink my battleship! At the end of the game, Simon’s remaining ships were all badly damaged, whereas my Blucher dreadnought was virtually unscathed.

Basecoating the Naval Battle Group

After undercoating the models from the Dystopian Wars Kingdom of Britannia Naval Battle Group were given a basecoat of Citadel Base: Mechanicus Standard Grey.

Here is the Ruler Class Battleship.

It was quite challenging to paint within the superstructure.

Side view of the Ruler Class Battleship. It was mounted on an old blister pack.

The three Tribal Class Cruisers also got the same basecoat. I mounted these on paint pots.

So did the Attacker Class Frigates.

Lots of detail for such small models.

Next stage will be the decking.

Dystopian Wars Airfield Set

Having given the resin models in the Dystopian Wars Airfield Set a basecoat, the next stages were undertaken.

I mixed some of the Vallejo German Dark Camo (979) with Vallejo Ivory (918) and drybrushed the hangars.

The Airship Towers were given a wash with Citadel Shade: Nuln Oil.

After that was dry, I gave them a drybrush of the original grey.

The Radar Tower was also given a wash with Citadel Shade: Nuln Oil.

The radar itself  got a base coat of Citadel Base: Warplock Bronze.

Dystopian Wars: Kingdom of Britannia Flyers

Within the box Kingdom of Britannia Naval Battle Group for Dystopian Wars are flyers, resin fighter tokens and metal bombers.

They look like biplanes, but have elements of 1940 era fighters.

Not quite sure how I am going to paint them at this time.

In the box you also get two Doncaster Class Bombers.

I am not a fan of these models, or even the concept. They look like flying boats, but aren’t.

Dystopian Wars: Kingdom of Britannia Naval Battle Group

Some time ago I bought the Kingdom of Britannia Naval Battle Group for Dystopian Wars.

In the box you get:

1 x Battleship
3 x Cruisers
9 x Frigates
2 x Bombers
10 x Resin Flying Tokens
2 x Acrylic Flight Stands
4 x A5 Token Sheets
Laminated Statistic Cards

After cleaning the models, and putting them together I gave them a white undercoat.

These are the Attacker Class Frigates.

These are the Tribal Class Cruisers.

This is the Ruler Class Battleship.

The next stage for these models will be a grey basecoat.
