Kill Team Ratlings

I missed out on getting the Kill Team box Kill Team: Brutal and Cunning, which sold out more quickly that I anticipated. However the individual teams from that box set have been released and one I am thinking about getting is the Ratlings.

Ratlings are snipers and spotters without peer in the Astra Militarum – these abhumans are small in stature, and unusually sneaky. They often operate behind enemy lines, reporting on targets of interest and neutralising choice targets with extreme prejudice.

I did get the Provisionally Prepared limited edition box, which features two halflings, sorry abhuman Ratlings, hiding behind some ruins. One is a sniper and preparing to shoot, the other is preparing lunch.

The boxed set of Ratlings builds 10 Ratlings, a Ratling Battlemutt, an Ammo Cache marker, and two Tripwire markers.

All great looking models.

Constructing the Space Hobbits

On the cover of a recent Miniature Wargames magazine was a free sprue of SneakFeet from Wargames Atlantic. Of course in any other place these would be space hobbits or halflings. Another place calls them Ratlings.

I borrowed some spare round bases I had and constructed the four models.

They were a little challenging to put together for me. You certainly get a wide choice of arms and heads, I wasn’t always sure about the best arms to use. However quite pleased with the end result.

Space Hobbits

On the cover of Miniature Wargames this month was a free sprue of SneakFeet from Wargames Atlantic. Of course in any other place these would be space hobbits or halflings. Another place calls them Ratlings.

I recently ordered the Provisionally Prepared miniature from Games Workshop, which is a great model. I did then think about getting the new Kill Team supplement, Brutal and Cunning, this contains a Halfling Ratlings squad. However I have seen it has sold out online, everywhere it seems. I will probably have to wait now until the Ratlings are released separately.

Having said that the free SneakFeet sprue gives me a chance to make up and paint some space hobbits, oh and a frying pan with eggs in it, second breakfast and all that.

Provisionally Prepared

Last month I wrote a post about the Citadel Limited Editions that I had seen at Warhammer World. I remember thinking that it was a pity that Games Workshop stopped producing miniatures like this.

Of course the reality is that now and again they do release similar models. We have seen the Red Gobbo festive release and today a lovely little diorama, Provisionally Prepared has gone on pre-order. It features two halflings, sorry abhuman Ratlings, hiding behind some ruins. One is a sniper and preparing to shoot, the other is preparing lunch.

Diminutive, keen-eyed and instinctively stealthy, the abhuman Ratlings serve the Astra Militarum primarily as outstanding snipers – they can take the head off a heretic with their rifles from over a mile away.

Get ready to celebrate with this incredibly detailed diorama showing two Ratling sniper specialists right in the middle of their two most important jobs – fighting and eating.

Thoroughly dug in behind a sturdy barricade, the sniper is shown taking cover and getting ready to shoot. Their colleague, meanwhile, prepares to reload both their bellies and their weaponry, equipped as they are with tasty sausages, a turkey, fresh drinks, grenades, and more, all within easy reach.

This is not a regular army model, this is an amusing scene that captures the essence of halflings in space. It so reminds me of the types of limited editions that we would see in the 1980s.

I really like this model, so I have pre-ordered it from my FLGS.
