The Vehicle Conservation Centre at The Tank Museum in Bovington is a purpose-built, 4,000-square-metre facility designed to preserve, restore, and house the museum’s reserve collection of armoured fighting vehicles.

Opened in 2009, the climate-controlled building moved over a hundred historically significant tanks and armoured cars indoors, protecting rare prototypes, secondary variants, and unrestored machinery from environmental deterioration. Beyond serving as a state-of-the-art workshop where skilled engineers and conservation specialists undertake painstaking repair and maintenance work, the Vehicle Conservation Centre features a public viewing balcony that allows visitors an overview of the reserve fleet and active restoration projects below, offering a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes engineering required to maintain the world’s finest collection of military armour.
