The twenty Space Marine Legions, also known as the Legiones Astartes, were created by the Emperor to take part in the Great Crusade in what was later known as the First Founding.
Many of the legions would use weapons and vehicles that by the 41st millennium would be the sole reserve of the Astra Militarum.
