Grot Krew

Gretchin or Grotz are basically a smaller subspecies of Orks, who are more cowardly than normal Orks and are usually used as living shields, to clear mine fields, are stepped on to get through difficult terrain, and sometimes even as emergency rations. Gretchins are quite low in the strict hierarchy of Ork society because of their small size (the lowest Orkoids being the Snotlings) and are often used for the dirtiest jobs like scavenging and being used as the football when the bigger Orks get bored.

These are some more of my Gretchin or Grotz Krew (take your pick). Across my Ork vehicles and models I am painting up some Grot Krew I do like the underdog and this page shows how I painted my Grots for Warhammer 40K, whilst this page shows how I painted the Big Gunz Krew.

Having ignored my Orks for a few years I have picked up some of my existing models and I started to paint them.

Some of these models are resin, some are metal and some are plastic (from kits like the Stompa).

I have been undercoating my Grots with a white undercoat.

This is a plastic Grot with two pistols.

I used the Ork Flesh contrast paint for the skin basecoat. I really like the contrast paint it works much better than I thought it would.

I added some highlights to the Grots using Warboss Green. I then used Citadel Dry paint, Niblet Green to add highlights. I then did further highlights using Hexos Palesun. I painted his nails and teeth with Ushabti Bone.

I painted his two pistols with Leadbelcher.

This is the metal Grot from the Skorcha, which I think I bought an additional one as a spare.

Again I used the Ork Flesh contrast paint for the skin.

I added some highlights to the Grots using Warboss Green. I then used Citadel Dry paint, Niblet Green to add highlights. I then did further highlights using Hexos Palesun. I painted his wrench with Leadbelcher.

These I think are plastic models from the Stompa kit.

Once more made use of the contrast paint for the skin.

I added some highlights to the Grots using Warboss Green. I then used Citadel Dry paint, Niblet Green to add highlights. I then did further highlights using Hexos Palesun. The drill I painted with Leadbelcher.

I used Nuln Oil Shade on the drill. Just realised that’s a socket wrench in his belt, will need to paint that using Leadbelcher again.

I painted the shirt of one of the krew with Ushabti Bone.

I did some more with the Grots. In the main I painted some clothing using various shades of khaki and brown. I highlighted the screwdriver with Stormhost Silver. I washed the pistols with Nuln Oil.

I used various greys to paint the bandana of the screwdriver yielding Grot.
