Orc Rogue Idol at Warhammer World

This is a Forge World Orc Rogue Idol at Warhammer World. When I first saw this model, I wasn’t too sure, but the more I look at it, the more I liked it.

When greenskin tribes gather for war, foetid effigies depicting the Orc gods Gork and Mork will be constructed. Using rock, dung, old battle trophies and other detritus, these ‘statues’ are intended to bring the favour of Mork (or possibly Gork) to the Orcs and Goblins mustering in their shadow. Some are no more than a heap of stones or no larger than a chapel door, but when a Waaagh! is brewing they can grow to immense proportions, and become so infused with the greenskins’ lust for battle that they are roused into life and will lumber forth to crush and bludgeon the enemy.

If a Waaagh! is subsequently defeated, or the concentration of greenskin magic dissipates, the idol will lapse back into immobility. However, when a Storm of Magic rages across the Warhammer world these gigantic devotions to the greenskin gods may rise up again as a Rogue Idol, mindlessly attacking all in their way until the storm blows its course.

I really like the modelling that has been done and the use of scenic materials to make it really look like it is just stones that are drawn together by magic.

I did think that it could be a good model for a Feral Ork army for WH40K.

Gargantuan Squiggoth at Warhammer World

Gargantuan Squiggoths are monstrous creatures approximately the size of a small Imperial Titan. Their size is the result of their breeding using the special, high-quality feed formula of the Snakebites Clan. These giants are sometimes used as mounts by the most powerful of Ork Warbosses.

This Gargantuan Squiggoth was on display at Warhammer World.

Though I have had the smaller Squiggoth for many years I have always liked the bigger cousin. Don’t think I will get one though.

Going Feral

With the imminent release of the new Warhammer Fantasy Orcs and Goblins army book, Games Workshop have announced various Orc models for pre-order.

Like any good Warhammer 40K Ork player it’s always worth a look to see what can be cannbalised for your Ork army.

My initial thoughts were about getting some reinforcements for my Feral Ork force.

The new Savage Orcs with a few additions would make some very nice Feral Ork Boyz.

To be honest I am not so keen on the Savage Orc Boar Boyz and will probably stick with “normal” Boar Boyz.

My main problem is the Savage Orcs seem to be sitting very high upon their Boars. The “normal” Boar Boyz are much more tightly crouched on their mounts.

I do quite like the Nasty Skulkers.

I think they would make for some fine Grots for my Orks.

And then we come to the Arachnarok Spider…

I don’t know, but for some reason I do like the model and would love to use it with my Ork army. There is something outrageous and silly about a huge spider and this would make for a setpiece for a Feral Ork army. Not so sure what the Imperial Guard would make of it though…

Snakebitez Boar Boyz

I have made and painted some Boar Boyz for a Feral Ork force already and you can see how I made and painted those here.

Feral Ork Boar Boy

Having decided to make some more, unlike my other three Boars, for these models I also ordered some metal Cyboar heads from the old Snakebitez bitz range – this was before Games Workshop rationalised their online bitz store. So the Boars went together pretty easily. Though I had no tails! On the plastic boars, the tails are on the head sprue and I only ordered plastic boar bodies. Ah well out with the Green Stuff!

The models were given a white undercoat.

This is my favourite which has a lot of armour plates and cybernetics.

Snakebitez Ork Boar Boyz

This week Games Workshop announced the release of some new Orc Boar Boyz for Warhammer Fantasy Battle.

Orc Boar Boyz are rough, tough and very determined. They ride into battle atop War boars – evil-minded creatures that will take every opportunity to maim, bite and kick the enemy of their Orc masters. Boar Boyz are the shock cavalry of an Orc and Goblin army, and they love nothing better that to gore, stamp and inflict damage on the enemy.

These are very nice looking plastic miniatures.

I can’t be the only Warhammer 40,000 Ork player looking at these new models and thinking time to add some Boar Boyz for my Feral Orks.

I have done this before with some other Warhammer Fantasy Orc Boar Riders.

Squiggoth

This is an Ork Squiggoth which was entered into the UK 2006 Golden Demon awards.

It is a nice concept, and the painting looks quite good.

For me the overall composition and basing of the model does let it down in my opinion. I am not sure if this is a Warhammer 40000 model or a Warhammer Fantasy Battle model, it’s not a clear concept. I like it, but I would like it even more if the overall concept had worked.

Having said all that it did get Gold!

Orcs & Goblins coming in May

orcandgoblin2010

Warhammer Fantasy Orcs and Goblins are coming in May.

Orcs & Goblins are the scourge of the Warhammer world, an unending tide of ferocious raiders. For every greenskin Waaagh! defeated on the field of battle, another arises to trample a swathe of destruction across the land. Orcs and Goblins live to fight!

Orcs & Goblins are one of the most popular Warhammer armies and it’s not difficult to see why: they can field warriors of all shapes and sizes from tiny Snotlings to Giants, and every shape of Orc and Squig in-between. They have access to a bizarre array of war machines and mounts, and some of the most entertaining special rules of any Warhammer army.

Just from the above from GW, I would suspect that we may see new Boar Boyz, Squig Riders, more Orc war machines. Could be some useful stuff for Feral Ork players.

I wonder if we will see a plastic Squiggoth?
